When units die very fast, the time that the HP reg has been active is very low, and you have probably only gained a few HP on each unit before they died.
The reason why berserks are not too good is that if you have a semi-big amount of them, your opponent will probably have an equally big army, and when they fight, units will die very fast. And to produce units from 7 barracks is quite much faster than 2 castles. But now you have to get to First castle age, then have collected stone in order to build a castle. If vikings could get the units in dark/feudal when the fights lasts some time, then it would be a very useful unit. The remaining units will probably all be very low and then reg up to 100% again. One of them is when a few units fight vs each other. HP reg itself is not useless at all but unfortunately there are only a few situations when it really works. If vikings could get Halb, then they would be very hard to counter in any way, i think they would probably become op. But would it be OP? I'm uncertain, since it would still be really weak against anything non-cavalry. However, for every 40 berserkers you get 45 swordsmen.īut I guess you agree that the vikings probably needs something post imp to stay relevant, and a halberdier with extra health would certainly help. Would you elaborate why you think of the berserkers as useless? Isn't the regenerating health and low cost a pretty great combo? They do pretty much the same as a swordsman for 10 more resources and regenerating health. So a halberdier with 20% extra HP would make them spammable, and maybe even OP? Well, I can see that, they are extremely cheap units.

Originally posted by BlindManic:Vikings are one of the best civs in the game, even on land maps, it's just how to play them and if it matches your style.įinally someone bothering to use their knowledge of the game in the discussion. If you like to get to Imp before you do anything you are most likely going to love turks, but they are very weak earlyer in the game. Yes Vikes are good on water, but they are also good on land. Most civs have their strengths and weaknesses in each age/map. Beserker to me is useless and I never build them, but they get 2 UU so it's fair.Īs far as getting the Halb upgrade, that would make them far too OP, you would just spam them and they wouldn't die! Play swordsman/archers with some pikes if needed. They also get all food/wood upgrades, so you need less villagers in imp effectively (so larger army).Īs far as army goes, they are rubbish cavalry civ - so don't build any. (Try the 'wonder race' game and see how you go with vikes vs another civ for an example). This is massive for econ and gives you a bonus for feudal age especially.

If you could make it into a client state of Palermo, or simply give it to the Aghlabids, that would be amazing! Also, Spoleto was a pretty unreliable and often recalcitrant vassal of the Kingdom of Italy - in 860 its duke rebelled against Louis II and took shelter in Muslim Bari.Vikings are one of the best civs in the game, even on land maps, it's just how to play them and if it matches your style.Įcon - Best civ for booming as they get Wheelbarrow/Hand Cart free the moment you hit Feud/Castle.

I can give you full refrences in contemporary Latin chronicles if needed. It was not linked to Bari, but rather it enjoyed some privileged relationship with the Muslims of Sicily. I just wanted to say that Taranto was most certainly in Muslim hands as well at the time (occupied in either 840 or 846, and recaptured only in 880). I was amazed to see the Emirate of Bari on the map - I wrote my Oxford master's disseration on it!
I have one nitpicky remark that you are most welcome to disregard.
